Subtitling/closed captioning of ATSC TV
By making use of the digital TV switchover, we can provide English, as well as foreign language closed captions to TV programs. Multiple closed caption streams in Roman and non-Roman characters can be included in both SD and HD content. With this development, millions of Asian immigrants with limited English skills can now enjoy popular TV shows with their native language closed captions.
We have been providing open captions in Chinese and Korean for the rebroadcasting of KNBC-LA’s 6pm nightly news on KSCI/LA18. This model can be adjusted to acommodate closed captions for other programs; live broadcasts can be re-aired a few hours later through digital sub-channels, and pre-recorded programs can be aired with multiple language closed captions already encoded.
On Demand Subtitling for Internet Streaming
As Internet streaming is becoming increasingly popular, the need for uploading subtitles to the streaming videos has arisen. We recently developed a tool to upload multi-language subtitles that automatically synchronize with the streaming videos; they sync perfectly after pause/play, rewind, fast forward, and replay.
