Digitally projected open subtitles for film based movies

The system is comprised of the following components:

  • Dolby ScreenTalk system controller
  • Dolby ScreenTalk douser
  • Subtitle file server
  • Dual lamp digital projector
  • DCI Interface Board for DCP movies
  • Frame counter for films without digital audio tracks

When subtitling 35mm films with digital audio tracks, the subtitles are synchronized automatically with Dolby block codes or DTS time codes imprinted on the film. The system has the ability to overcome edited or partially deleted film, and synchronizes the audio track with the subtitles.

For films without digital audio tracks, a frame counter mounted on the projector is used. The frame counts are relayed to the system’s time code reader, which converts the information to block codes that are used by the Dolby Digital subtitling system.
